Israel Mission on Renewable Energy Technologies, 06 - 10 April 2008, Mumbai /Bangalore/New Delhi, India

India has a vast potential for renewable energy sources, especially in areas such as solar power, biomass and wind power. The current installed capacity of renewable energy is over 10,000 MW and the country has been adding 2,000 MW each year over the last three years. India is already the fourth largest in the world in terms of installed capacity of wind energy.

Renewable Energy Technologies is among the focus S&T areas identified for collaboration under Indo-Israeli Industrial R&D (i4RD) programme, based on benefit to both countries.

Israel has made great technological advancement in Renewable Energy Technologies. It is one of the few countries to mandate Solar PV in all its new civil constructions and the first in the world to mandate Solar Hot Water in the upcoming new buildings of the country.

As part of the programme's (i4RD) objectives to promote and facilitate bilateral R&D / ventures in this area, a Mission from Israel on Renewable Energy was scheduled between April 6 - 11, 2008. 8 companies/universities from Israel on Renewable Energy Technologies visited India for the Mission. It was comprised of industry interactive sessions, discussions with policy makers, technology presentations from both Indian & Israeli companies and planned B2B meetings.

Intense interactive sessions have been held in Mumbai and Bangalore for two days with participation from both industry & academia. More than 40 Indian companies in Mumbai & 30 in Bangalore have participated and several of these companies have held one to one meetings with the Israeli companies.

A seminar on Renewable Energy Technologies was also arranged in New Delhi, with the presence of Mr. Mark Sofer, Ambassador of Israel to India, where about 50 companies have participated. The Israeli delegates were also involved in close B2B meetings with Indian industry and academia. Representatives from the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) were also present to provide an overview of the country's policy and strategies to the Israeli delegation in the related field.
